Coast Digital is unlike anywhere I have worked before, having joined in February 2022 and not from a Digital Marketing background, I was left wondering what to expect. In this blog, I will introduce you to ‘All Things Coast Digital’…
What does Coast Digital offer?
The camaraderie and teamwork are all part of what makes Coast great. We have three departments that are split into wider teams: The Online Marketing team, the Commercial team, and the Design and Build team. They are comprised of extremely talented and hardworking individuals with many years of experience in a variety of skill sets.
To give you a brief breakdown, I spoke to a member of staff from each department and asked them to describe in a few words what their individual departments offer.
Online Marketing Team
“Online marketing is when companies use digital channels and platforms, such as search engines or social media, to advertise their goods and services to online audiences. At Coast Digital, our experienced Online Marketing team focus on achieving business goals and driving growth through disciplines like:
- Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)

- Email marketing
- Paid social
- Display Advertising
- Content creation
- Digital strategy
Rob Phillips, Digital Manager
Commercial Team
“The Commercial Team here at Coast Digital comprises of the Account Managers and New Business Development Managers, who are responsible for keeping the flow of work moving throughout the business.
“This work involves anything from ensuring that all tasks are briefed, delivered, and reported on within agreed timeframes, to keeping clients up to date with new trends, technologies, and recommendations for achieving their objectives and KPIs”
Charlotte Markwell, Account Manager
Design and Build Team
“We design and build websites that are on brand and tailored to enhance the user journey. Our expert development team combines User Experience (UX) insight and expertise to create a custom website using the latest coding practices, as well as embracing new technologies and complying with industry standards. We build websites that are reliable, stable, robust, and deliver great results”
Jamil Shehadeh, Head of Design and Build
Expanding our knowledge, minds, and networks…
Communication is very important in any business, which is why we have monthly company meetings to make sure everyone is aware of current and upcoming projects, as well as any potential new clients. It’s also a good way to introduce new starters to the wider business.
Can change be positive? Absolutely.
Change is something that we have all become accustomed to, particularly in the last two years due to the dreaded ‘C-word’. Thanks to modern-day technology, staff can connect to their colleagues and clients from anywhere in the world via Teams and Zoom.
Earlier this year we moved into a new office in Colchester. It’s a central location, nearer the town centre, with an open plan design that allows all teams to integrate – rather than being in separate rooms like our previous office.
We have already welcomed several clients to the new office for meetings and workshops, having face-to-face meetings allows us to offer our clients a personal touch. We take pride in really getting to know our clients, understanding how they work and also allowing them to see how we work together as a team.
Alongside all the usual office furniture, if you visit us you will see our table tennis table, Pac-Man machine and even a foosball table. It is fair to say lunchtimes can get very competitive!
Now we are in a more centralised location, it’s just a short walk into the town centre offering lots of great restaurants and places to shop. Our personal favourites are Trotters Bar, The Marquis, The Noodle Bar and Marks and Spencer – there are lots more, but far too many to mention!
Working well together
It is important to build relationships internally as well as externally, a happy team leads to higher productivity. To do this, we host a series of events to offer staff the opportunity to engage with each other during breaks and after office hours.
We hold a bi-weekly breakfast club where staff are invited to the office early for a tasty breakfast. This session allows us all to sit down and connect as a team. Hot topics of conversation vary from client projects that we are working on, to the weather and the current news affairs.
We also offer a monthly cinema club organised by one of our Account Managers, David Ward. He sends out a poll of films being shown at the time, and the winning film is viewed later in the month by anyone wishing to attend.
Watch this space, as we have a Coastival (Coast Festival) summer party planned in August, so there will be lots of excitement around that and hopefully pictures to follow…
Acquisition and Wider Reach
In 2020 Coast Digital was acquired by Elixirr, a global business management consultancy firm operating in the UK, US, South Africa, and Australia. This partnership has given us the opportunity to expand our connections, services, and reach a wider market.
The great thing about Coast Digital is that we are a local agency individually, but with the backing and expertise from a wider global team.
